Overview
The Ajax Ares combines two types of search in one machine. A long-range system scans across a wide area to pick up target signals, and three EFM systems used with a 35 x 35 cm search coil then help identify and pinpoint what is in the ground nearby. This makes it practical for prospectors who want to locate and confirm targets without carrying two separate devices.
The EFM Discrimination system helps tell precious and non-precious metals apart, the EFM Graph system shows signal changes as a graph, and Quick Scan includes pinpointing for the final dig. The unit has a 5-inch colour screen, optional vibration alerts and a carbon-fibre stick that adjusts in length. A 30,000 mAh external battery pack gives more than 20 hours of continuous use.
Ajax lists gold, gold nuggets, silver, bronze, copper, iron, coltan, cavities and gemstones including diamond, emerald, ruby and aquamarine among its targets. The manufacturer rates the long-range system for up to 1000 metres distance and 20 metres depth, and the EFM systems to about 2 metres; long-range figures are Ajax's own claims rather than guaranteed results. Weight is about 2.5 kg with battery, with a two-year warranty.
