Mega Diamond Locator

The Mega Diamond Locator is built for a narrower job than Mega Detection's multi-system kits. Instead of general treasure hunting, it is programmed to search for diamonds and coloured gemstones. This makes it relevant to prospectors working in mineral-rich regions who want a dedicated tool for stones such as emerald, sapphire, tourmaline, aquamarine and quartz rather than metals. It is not intended for metal or treasure searching.

Range and depth are selected from preset steps. The manufacturer states a horizontal range of 250 to 2500 m and a depth of up to 60 m, with depth options of 5, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 60 m. These are manufacturer claims and should not be treated as guaranteed results. A pair of chrome-plated scanner antennas and a signal booster radar handle the search, while the Deep Master unit with two antennas and three pegs is used to estimate depth.

The unit is lighter than the big multi-system cases, at 6.3 kg including the bag. It uses a 4.3-inch TFT display with touch-operated buttons, an ARM processor and a 3600 mAh lithium-ion battery rated for 10 to 15 hours of continuous use. A waterproof, sponge-lined ABS case, car charger, training DVD and warranty certificate are included, and the menu supports eight languages.
