MWF GF 500

The GF 500 is the smaller, simpler gemstone locator in MWF's GF series. It is aimed at diamonds, emeralds, meteorites and other gemstones, and is designed so that people without long detector experience can use it. The whole device fits in a pocket and is operated with a few buttons and rows of LEDs rather than a screen. It is meant for quick scouting trips where carrying a larger station would be impractical.

It works on MWF's long-distance sensing (LDS) principle, using digital frequency signal processing to receive the electrostatic fields of targets, together with the HSW send-and-receive signal system and internal filtering to reduce the effect of magnetic soil. The operator selects the target type, a depth range and a distance range, then follows the acoustic alarm toward the target. MWF states a maximum depth of 10 m and a distance of 200 m with 360-degree coverage; these are manufacturer claims.

Power comes from four ordinary AAA batteries, rated for about 32 working hours, which is convenient in remote areas without charging. It weighs around 700 g. For gemstone hunters in Pakistan's northern areas looking for a light, low-maintenance locator, the GF 500 is a straightforward option below the GF 1000. Users should still practise with known samples before relying on it in the field.
