UIG Pointer

The UIG Pointer is a compact pinpointer sold by UIG Detectors and its GER Detect sister sites. Like other pinpointers, it is used after the main detector has found a signal: the user digs, then sweeps the probe around the hole and loose soil to find the exact position of the object without making the hole much bigger. This saves time and protects the find.

Its distinctive feature is that it gives different sounds for precious and non-precious metals, which the maker says helps decide quickly whether a find is worth recovering. It is also bundled free with the GER Detect Gold Seeker pulse induction detector, which makes it a familiar accessory for owners of that machine. Owners of other brands of detector can use it just as easily, since it works independently of the main machine.

The main unit is 234 mm long and weighs 160 g, with a total kit weight of 276 g. It runs on a standard 9 V alkaline battery for about six hours, which is easy to replace in the field. The device is weatherproof rather than waterproof, so it should not be submerged. A holster and stand are included. Spare batteries are cheap and widely available.
