Overview
The Ajax Gamma is built around ground imaging rather than long-range search. It brings together three systems, 3D Ground Imaging, Live Scan and Gradio Smart, so the user can scan a site, watch readings in real time, and then study a 3D picture of what lies below. It is a good choice when you already have a suspected spot and want to understand what is buried there.
In Live Scan mode the screen colours readings as you walk: green for normal soil, red for metal and blue for voids or caves. The 3D system uses four scanning sensors in the imaging scanner to build a picture of the target, while Gradio Smart reads changes in the magnetic field to pick up metals and cavities closer to the surface. The unit can be used hand-held or mounted, and connects to a tablet for a larger view.
Ajax rates the 3D and Live Scan systems to about 30 metres and Gradio Smart to about 10 metres; these are manufacturer figures and actual results depend on target size and ground. Typical uses include gold and treasure search, cavity detection, archaeology, mining and locating pipes or cables. A 7.4 V battery gives around 10 hours, and the Gamma has a two-year warranty.
