Overview
The Gepard GPR 3D is OKM's ground penetrating radar. Unlike magnetic or electromagnetic ground scanners, it sends radio pulses into the ground through separate transmitting and receiving antennas and reads the echoes from layers and buried objects. The triangular, unshielded antennas are mounted on adjustable telescopic shafts, and the system works across a 60 to 300 MHz frequency range. Its height can be adjusted to suit the operator.
Results can be shown as a 2D radargram, giving a vertical slice of the ground, or recorded as a 3D Ground Scan for a full picture of the area. Measurements are taken at nine complete cycles per second and displayed live on the included Android tablet. OKM rates the system for underground structures down to 40 m, depending on soil conditions.
This makes the Gepard well suited to locating pipelines, conduits, cavities, tunnels, bunkers and old foundations, which is useful for engineering, construction and archaeology as well as treasure searching. Power comes from batteries in the telescopic shafts giving about four hours of use. Data can be analysed in Visualizer 3D Studio Professional. It is made in Germany with a two-year guarantee.
